How to give your home that fresh new look... even if you don't have much time. Learn what you need to know about refinishing your front door!

  • Difficulty: Easy
  • Time: 1 to 3 hours
  • Tools: Paint Brush, Painter's Masking Tape, Screwdriver

There’s no doubt that your front door speaks volumes about you and your personality.

It’s the first impression people get when they’re visiting your home. And, in many cases, how people judge the value of a house, itself.

That’s why repainting your front door this weekend is a great way to give your home all the extra attention and respect it deserves. And the best part – this is one of the quickest and easiest home improvement projects there is.

Decide on a color that fits your mood, not your home’s color scheme

Feel free to treat your front door like a single focal point that’s different from everything else. It’s like the centerpiece on the table or a new stylish hat. It doesn’t have to blend in. With that in mind, think of a color that says something about you, about how you want other people to see you. Painting an exterior door can have more implications than you would think.

Consider adding trim

Could you use a highlight?

If you’ve already got a peephole, a combination peephole/ door knocker can add an air of sophistication. From a distance, the stainless steel catches the light. The design speaks of elegance and refinement. And when guests knock at the door, its solid sound re-enforces the sense of a well-built home.

Now is also a good time to upgrade your handles

Just like jewelry, new handles can be the perfect accessory to your front door’s new look, and give that extra dash of quality, feel, and freshness you were looking for. That’s why I always say, while you’ve already got your old handles off for sanding, priming and painting, why not also take a moment to think about your handle options and decide what’s best for you? Then roll up your sleeves and make a statement
